For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

When Jesus was asked by the Pharisees what the greatest commandment was, He gave the perfect answers. The first was love the Lord with all your heart, and the second was to love your neighbor as yourself. By doing this, the other commandments fall into place. If you treat your neighbor the way you want to be treated, how can you lie, hurt and steal from them? As a born-again representative of Christ, it’s your duty to show this kind of love to other people, remembering that it was love that held your Savior to the cross He died on

Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.

Human nature, which is fundamentally sin nature, drives you to serve yourself and your own interests. Our inherent selfishness makes itself clear from our first tantrums as a toddler, through our youth and into adulthood. This is what makes loving others so special. When you focus on others, putting their needs on a higher pedestal than your own, you are betraying your human nature and showing everyone the love of God. His Word assures us that a life lived selflessly is far more rewarding than a life lived for yourself.

For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth, and the former things shall not be remembered or come into mind.

There will be endless joys and treasures to enjoy in Heaven, but the most important part about God’s eternal paradise won’t be the beautiful things we’ve gained, but the terrible things we’ve lost. No longer will you have to worry about the sin and death that is intrinsic to our fallen world. Pain and strife will be forgotten concepts to us, along with war, poverty, hunger, and loss. The sin nature that we are all born with will be thrown away when earth and Heaven are made anew, and the pain you endured in life will never hurt you again.

I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.

It has been said, by people with much more solemn outlooks on life, that existence is merely the struggle to exist. Any number of things can rattle your world in this life, and someday, your life itself will be ended. But as a child of God whose sin has been paid for by Christ’s blood, you will never truly perish. Heaven is waiting for you, and once you’ve been accepted into God’s kingdom, there is nothing that can steal you away. The Father offers eternal life to anyone who will believe in the sacrifice of His son Jesus, but you’re only offered one lifetime to make the choice, and to plant the seeds that will encourage others to do the same.

Luke 23:42-43
And he said, ‘Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.’ And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.

In this portion of scripture, one of the criminals being crucified alongside Jesus berates Him for not saving himself, but the other puts his trust in the Son of God. Knowing that he doesn’t deserve it, the thief asks Jesus not to forget him, and with that, the Savior promises that they will be together in paradise. This one man, nailed to a tree and trusting Jesus to save him,

painted a perfect picture of what we all must do to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. If you recognize your sin, your need for a Savior, and believe in His ability to wash your mistakes away, you too will be with Him in paradise.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

This verse is the central theme of the New Testament; the good news that offers you an eternal place in Heaven with the God who loves you and gave His only Son to save you. Because of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross, the debt you could never pay has been paid. The stains of sin that you could never wipe off on your own have been washed away by His blood. Your Father is waiting for you in Heaven, and for those around you too. This life may not be all there is, but it’s your only chance to accept Christ’s gift, and share the good news with those who need to hear it.
