King Solomon writes of the imperative of fathers instructing their children to pursue understanding and wisdom.

Proverbs 4:1  Listen, my sons, to a father’s instruction; pay attention and gain understanding.  (NIV)

Imagine Old Testament Solomon being taught by his father David!  What follows in Proverbs 4, is the fatherly instruction to gain wisdom.  Solomon was heir to the throne — imagine what priorities David had in mind for this future king!  Perhaps the greatest priority was that of prayer.

Remember, Solomon was not born the wisest man who ever lived.  No, he prayed for that wisdom, and because he did not ask for victory over his enemies, long life, and riches — God gave him all these gifts!  Fathers, who knows the future impact of the lives of your son or daughter because you spoke words of instruction to them leading to wisdom?
