The apostle Paul writes of the position Christ-followers experience — in Christ.

Colossians 3:3 For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. (NASB)

Since Christ-followers have received new spiritual life because of accepting Christ’s death as payment for their sins — they are inseparably ‘in Christ”. God only sees us because we are a new creation . . . “in Christ”.  So when Christ died and rose victorious over sin and death — Christ-followers are no longer slaves of sin and our future home in heaven is so certain Scripture speaks of our being there in the past tense! (Ephesians 2:6)  In the meantime, I am to set my mind on things above. I am to focus my thoughts not on what makes me prominent or popular with the world’s values – but on God’s eternal values.

I say again, when you began to follow Christ you died with Him figuratively on the cross. He paid the penalty for your wrong-doing on the cross. But, as a Christ-follower, your life is bound up with Christ’s and He didn’t remain dead – He rose from the dead . . . defeating death! Because Christ is resurrected – you are resurrected! Your life is wrapped up forever with Christ’s.  The same is true of any Christ-follower. It’s irrevocable!
