The apostle Paul describes how a Christ-follower, especially someone in leadership, should handle a controversial issue.

II Timothy 2:24 A servant of the Lord must not quarrel but must be kind to everyone, be able to teach, and be patient with difficult people. (NLT)

In Paul’s letter to his protégé Timothy, it was written in the day of a world about to explode in conflict. I don’t know about you, but that sounds a lot like the 21st century. Now Paul says in that context – don’t go looking for a fight, but if a legitimate issue arises: conduct yourself properly and deal with it!

How do you conduct yourself as a Christ-follower while dealing with an emotionally charged issue? Be kind, be gentle and approachable. Deal with facts and do not respond emotionally. Finally, remain calm and collected while dealing with difficult people. If you are treated rudely and condescendingly – don’t respond in the same way.
