Family Life Ministries has an opening for a full-time Sound Engineer in the Performing Arts Department. Family Life, in its 70th year of ministry, continues to expand its outreach through broadcasting, performing arts, events, counseling ministries, and digital media across New York, Pennsylvania, and beyond. The Sound Engineer will support Broadway-style musical productions, concerts, live events, and ministry programming by overseeing live sound operations, audio systems, and production support for audiences of up to 700.

The individual chosen to fill this position will have the opportunity to work alongside a talented and creative team of staff members, volunteers, directors, musicians, and performers. The Lead Sound Engineer must be a follower of Jesus Christ, as this role serves both ministry and guest-facing functions within Family Life productions and events.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Mixing and operating live sound for theatrical productions (including live orchestra pits), concerts, staff events, and special programs
  • Programming and operating digital sound consoles, playback systems, and wireless microphone systems
  • Supporting multimedia and projection needs during productions and events
  • Maintaining consistent sound quality and supporting the artistic vision of each production
  • Performing pre-show testing, troubleshooting, and equipment checks
  • Maintaining and organizing sound equipment, tools, and storage spaces
  • Assisting with production preparation, load-in, technical rehearsals, changeovers, and strike
  • Collaborating with directors, music staff, stage management, performers, the Events Department, and production teams
  • Troubleshooting technical issues during rehearsals and live performances
  • Leading and supporting volunteers or assistant technicians during productions and events
  • Attending weekly staff meetings and production meetings as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must maintain a positive Christian testimony through a vibrant, active, and strong personal relationship with Jesus Christ
  • Experience in live theatrical sound engineering, concert audio, or related production work
  • Working knowledge of professional sound systems, digital consoles, wireless microphone systems, and playback software
  • Understanding of audio engineering principles, acoustics, and live sound reinforcement
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical and equipment issues efficiently
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively in a team environment
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Detail-oriented and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced production environment
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work at heights or backstage production spaces as needed
  • Available to work evenings, weekends, performances, rehearsals, and tech weeks

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in theatrical sound, live event production, or related audio engineering work
  • Experience with digital audio consoles, wireless microphone systems, and playback systems preferred
  • Degree Preferred
  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, and professional experience will be considered

SALARY

$40,000 – $50,000/year

The initial compensation for the chosen candidate is determined by various job-related elements such as education, experience, and training. The position also comes with an array of benefits such as medical coverage, a Health Savings Account, a Health Reimbursement Arrangement, a 403(b) plan with matching contributions, life insurance, disability benefits, ten paid holidays, five PTO days, and ten vacation days allowable within the first year.
