Family Life Ministries has a full-time opening for a Christian radio news correspondent to lead the ministry’s news coverage across Pennsylvania. Family Life, in its 68th year of ministry, has plans to build a new world-class headquarters in Corning, NY that will allow for the growth and expansion of our performing arts, events, and Hope & Healing counseling ministry departments, as well as our regional radio network which consists of nearly 80 broadcast signals in New York and Pennsylvania. Job Summary:

The Pennsylvania News Correspondent is responsible for building relationships with lawmakers and ministry leaders in key markets of Pennsylvania to enhance the ministry’s ability to report on news, issues, and events across the state. The Pennsylvania News Correspondent is a full-time position that is a part of the Radio Department team and reports directly to the Director of Radio.

An overwhelming sense of God’s call to use one’s talents and life to advance His work, as well as a vibrant, active, and strong personal relationship with Jesus Christ are necessary requirements to fulfill this position. Maintaining a positive Christian testimony, including disciplining oneself, abstaining from all appearance of evil, and regular involvement in a local church are required. I Duties and Responsibilities (included but are not limited to):

  • Write, prepare, and record news stories and feature-length stories for broadcast on issues and events happening in Pennsylvania.
  • Write, prepare, and record daily news round up podcasts covering specific regions of Pennsylvania.
  • Edit audio and soundbites to use in news broadcast that will enhance our story-telling abilities
  • Connect with and build relationships with state lawmakers, community & ministry leaders across Pennsylvania.
  • Interview guests and experts to enhance our coverage of specific stories in this area
  • Write and record voicers to be used in other news shifts
  • Assisting with other duties as needed at the discretion of the Director of Radio

II Qualifications

  1. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college, preferably with a focus on news, communications, and broadcasting
  2. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills; meticulous organizational, project management, and time management skills.
  3. Strong news writing skills
  4. Previous news reporting and/or anchoring experience
  5. Familiarity with Adobe Audition or similar digital audio workstations and solid sound editing abilities
  6. The temperament and personality to interact with a variety of individuals in a professional, positive, and pleasant manner; ability to exercise independent judgment when appropriate
  7. Ability to work well under pressure; self-motivated with a proven ability to solve problems; ability to work under varying degrees of supervision
  8. Fully competent in basic computer skills including Microsoft Office and Excel
  9. Must be living, working, and worshiping in the Harrisburg area

III. Miscellaneous:

  1. Be responsible to the Director of Radio
  2. Attend staff meetings on Wednesday mornings in Bath, NY monthly
  3. Be available for all four days of Spring and Fall Sharathons
  4. Be available as needed for Family Life’s Summer Fund Drive
  5. This position may require working some nights and weekends, especially when covering news related events

SALARY

$50,000 – $60,000

The initial compensation for the chosen candidate is determined by various job-related elements such as education, experience, and training. The position also comes with an array of benefits, including medical coverage, a Health Savings Account, a Health Reimbursement Arrangement, a 403(b) plan with matching contributions, life insurance, disability benefits, ten paid holidays, five paid time-off (PTO) days, and ten vacation days allowable within the first year.
