Ingredients

The Fritters

  •  1 1/2 Cups Flour
  • 1/4 Cup Sugar
  • 2 Tsp Baking Powder
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 1 Tsp Cinnamon
  • 1/4 Tsp Ground Cloves
  • 1/4 Tsp Ground Nutmeg
  • 1/3 Cup Milk
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 Tbsp Vanilla
  • 2 Apples, Cored peeled and chopped abut 1/4 in
  • 3 Tbsp Unsweetened Applesauce

The Glaze

  • 2 Cups Powdered Sugar
  • 1/4 Cup Milk
  • 1 Tsp Vanilla
  • 1/2 Tsp Cinnamon

Method-

Combine the flour in a bowl with the sugar, baking powder, salt an cinnamon. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs and vanilla until well combined. Pour the egg mixture into the dry ingredients until just combined. Add in the apples ( I used one granny Smith and one Honeycrisp) and applesauce and mix to coat. Mixture should resemble a thicker muffin batter.

Heat a large, heavy bottomed pot or fryer. I used half canola oil, half shortening in a large pot, covering about 1 1/2 inches of the bottom. Use a candy thermometer to bring the oil up to 350 degrees. Scoop out the fritter dough using about 1/4 cup scoops. Brown on all sides for about 2-3 minutes each turn, turning often. Work in batches to make things easier.

Remove the fritters from the oil and drain on paper towels.

Mix together the glaze ingredients. after the fritters have cooled slightly to touch, dunk them and coat them with the glaze. Allow them to drip and cool completely on a wire rack. Serve and enjoy!
