The apostle John explains to Christ-followers the way to restore fellowship with God.

I John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (KJV)

The apostle Paul laments in Scripture, “that the things I should be doing for the Lord — I don’t do, and the thing I should not do – I do!” Christ-followers are not perfect and still need forgiveness – not for salvation – but to maintain fellowship with God. Think of when a son disobeys his father: he’s still part of the family – but until there is confession and forgiveness — normally cordial relations are strained.

God is so gracious when we do wrong. His first response is not a lightning bolt! It’s a lack of peace and a sense there is something not right. The solution is quick and easy to do: confess/agree with God that your actions were wrong, and He promises to forgive and cleanse you!
