The Psalmist calls us to give thanks for God’s eternal love.
Psalm 136:1 Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, for His loving-kindness is everlasting. (NASB)
Thanksgiving is a lost art . . . don’t you think? Regularly the sun rises and sets; our hearts beat and our lungs take in oxygen; the rains water our fields. You get the point! Everyday God does wonderful things for which we never, or rarely, thank Him.
This Psalm reminds you — 27 times — of God’s loving-kindness! “Loving-kindness” is a word that refers to God’s loyal love: a love that fulfills it’s promises faithfully no matter how faithless we are. Why the repetition? Repetition is essential to drive the point home!
