Newsies Jr

Disney’s Newsies Jr. is a timeless story full of spirit and heart inspired by the rousing true story of newsboys in turn-of-the-century New York City. When powerful newspaper publishers raise prices at the newsboys’ expense, the charismatic Jack Kelly rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions. Together, the newsies learn that they are stronger united and create a movement to fight for what’s right.

There’s something special about a story where people band together for what’s right. Even better, a story about young people banding together for what’s right. Best of all, are true stories about young people banding together for what’s right. That’s Newsies! Add a captivating musical score, snappy dance numbers and Brooklyn accents? Well.. .how can you not love THAT! I could not have been prouder and more impressed with this group.

Throughout history’ there are numerous examples of young people standing for what’s right. Bible characters like David standing up to a giant, his three friends risking their lives by refusing to worship the king, or Daniel who’d rather be put in a den of lions than stop praying. The exciting thing when you look at these examples in history (Spoiler alert) is that they always Good wins. Right wins. Always. There may be long moments when lies and darkness and oppression rule with an iron fist, it may look like good will not win, but it always will.

I believe any story worth telling, such as Newsies, has elements of the best story ever told. It’s the story of how God wins. 1 Corinthians 15 says ‘…sin is the sting that results in death…But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Even though life is full of challenges, we know in the end we can have victory through Jesus Christ. He wins. Now that’s a story worth telling.
